The Most Special Birthday

“When I think of love, I think of these kids. When I think of selflessness, compassion, and all things good- I think of these kids. I filled my journal with story after story that brought me to tears during my time in Haiti. But one that sticks out was my birthday. I woke up kind of homesick and wasn’t sure how the day would go.. It ended up being the most memorable, happiest days of my life. I was greeted by almost every kid singing happy birthday and their own little unique gift.. and I’m not kidding when I say, almost every kid. Whether that be the crushed up bag of crackers they had been saving forever, their favorite lipgloss, or a handwritten note.. They did not have much, in fact hardly anything.. But they INSISTED I take their gifts for my birthday.

I went back to my room that night and couldn’t help but cry cause it meant so much to them that I felt important and loved throughout the day even if that meant giving up something that was super important to them.. I still have that empty lipgloss, the crushed up crackers, and all the little letters that made my heart so full. I love those kids and I think about them every single day. They are love and they are all things good❤️ “
